![]() ![]() Said community has become a lot more visible since Sonic Mania came out but FP1 kind of got ahead of that trend by coming out when people weren't so much aware of that community, before Mania kind of buried any further growth because the people who played FP1 because they wanted a decent 2D Classic Sonic game finally got what they ACTUALLY wanted. This game by contrast started in what was effectively a niche subset of a wider community, ie, the Sonic fangame community. Hollow Knight has the benefits of appealing to one of the most popular modern day gaming crowds, the Soulsbourne community (I can't remember what the other reasons Hollow Knight got so popular were), Cuphead was heavily promoted by Microsoft upon its initial reveal and Celeste was picked up in a similar manner to how Undertale got big. Undertale has a similar background to this having been born out of an active fansite user (in this case Earthbound) but Toby's involvement with Homestuck probably made him a bit more well known, plus when the game came out it was pretty much perfectly built to human psychology in literally every way that it naturally sparked discssion on its release and was promoted by way of mouth. For as much as Shovel Knight is an indie game its sometimes easy to forget that prior to it coming out the developers had all previously worked at WayForward, so they already had game development experience behind them and people who were familiar with them who could back their new Kickstarter venture. But all of those have varying different circumstances around their popularity. I guess people feel that it should perhaps be as well known as the likes of Shovel Knight, Undertale, Hollow Knight, Celeste and Cuphead area. Regarding the series popularity, Yeah I think it sits somewhere between niche and well known. I believe they even made their own collab with MN9, Mighty Gunvolt or something. ![]() Those games usually range from good to perfect, especially with 2 and 3.īut you really need to be into score attack to get the most out of them, and that’s a niche in a niche since Megaman is already not as popular sales wise as you’d thinkĪt the same time devs were pretty public about not really having money to advertise their games, I think Sabrina said something like that on her stream, and FP1 also kinda mostly got popular due to word of mouth.ĭidn’t it also blow up in popularity once it released for wii u in 2015? It leads me to believe that, as much as I seriously want to do what I can to help it get an indie of the year 2022 nom, this game’s true time will come next spring/summer with the console ports, ESPECIALLY if featured in a direct mini/indie roundup. “Gunvolt is good” is even a massive understatement as well. And those are good games.Īt the same time devs were pretty public about not really having money to advertise their games, I think Sabrina said something like that on her stream, and FP1 also kinda mostly got popular due to word of mouth. Tthere's 5 (I think) games now and the most popular one is sitting on Steam with 1.3k reviews only, despite releasing in 2015, not a single another of them broke 1000 reviews, and the newest one still did not get 100 reviews in 5 days since its release. Originally posted by TurtleGuy:Honestly this game is a whole lot more popular that many other indie games, like, take Gunvolt series for example, since they are too very retro-inspired modern 2D action platformer. Still not a reason to ignore every future game that hasnt even released (like Frontiers), but at least it sounds understandable lol. Something closer to "There hasn't been a great 3D game since Generations, why should I care" is a lot more realistic. Saying something that’s so clearly incorrect just makes it too obvious. We gave you this tip before, but you have to be at least a little realistic when trolling xD. I mean it's not my fault they aren't as good as in the 90's anymore.Ĭolors and Gens are like the exceptions as 3D Modern Sonic cane be. Being "sonic like" doesn't mean much by itself. And if they saw the game before, they didn't think about it because it's not that known everywhere. ![]() I know actual fans of sonic who didn't even know Freedom Planet existed until I tell them about it. Should I remind you that Sonic Colors is not that old and if all sonic games were bad, would sonic fans still be sonic fans? Think.
